Hole 1 - Downhill Dogleg Left
Sweeping start toward the Pacific
Par 5 - 595 / 564 / 529 yds.
Tee Shot
A long sweeping dogleg left. From the back tees, a shot of 250 yds. reaches the corner. Anything longer than 280 yds. should be angled slightly to the left. All players: a straight tee ball from the gold plays no more than 235 yds.; from White, 210 yds. Long hitters: commit to the corner cut. Mid/high handicap: aim for the corner with a 3-wood — that's the safe play; don't over-club. This tee shot plays gradually downhill but normally into the predominant wind, so that should cancel each other out if the wind is blowing. Also note, the air on the Monterey Peninsula is moist and thick, and the ball has a tendency to carry 5-7 yards less. CaddyTips® always recommends that the last couple of swings you take on the driving range should be practicing this tee shot and visualizing your success.
